FRANKFORT, IL — A sorrowful cigarette thief apologized to a service station clerk as he walked away with a carton of Newport 100s, police said.
The crook dropped in at the Speedway station at the corner of Lincoln Highway and Harlem Avenue about 2:45 a.m. Sunday.
The man produced his credit card and asked for a carton of Newport 100s, police said, but instead of paying for the smokes, once he had them in hand he told the clerk, “Sorry,” and took off.
