FRANKFORT, IL — Less than 24 hours before Nick Allegretti and his Kansas City Chiefs teammates captured their second NFL championship since 2020, the Frankfort native and former Lincoln-Way East star’s wife made Super Bowl weekend one to remember.

The Chiefs' 38-35 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night just proved to be icing on the cake.

“It was the best day of my life at 4 a.m.,” Allegretti told the Sun-Times on Sunday night amid the championship celebration. “Nothing can change that, but this makes it even better."

Despite being in the NFL only a short time, Allegretti has already managed to appear in a pair of Super Bowls before Sunday night's come-from-behind victory, engineered by quarterback Patrick Mahomes' second-half magic and capped by 27-yard Harrison Butker field goal with eight seconds remaining that gave Kansas City another championship.

Allegretti — who played football at Illinois after a successful career at Lincoln-Way East, where he also was a star wrestler — said he appreciates his early run of success with the Chiefs but refuses to take anything for granted.

“I’m just trying to do whatever I can to help the team,” Allegretti told reporters last month. “I’m prepared to play anywhere inside (on the offensive line) that I need to, and helping guys I can in (preparations), but still, playing in the playoffs in the National Football League is incredible.

“I definitely don’t take any of this stuff for granted regardless of my role and I’m happy as heck to be a part of this and to win again.”

Happy may be an understatement this weekend — Super Bowl ring and all.
