Texting and Driving Leads to Drug Bust

Will County Sheriff's Police nabbed a Frankfort man who allegedly had 44 grams of marijuana in his possession.

 A 19-year-old Frankfort man was pulled over by Will County Sheriff's Police for texting while driving. A strong odor coming from the car led to his arrest for allegedly being in possession of a felony amount of marijuana, 44 grams, the Sun-Times Media reported.

Kathy Hoffmeyer, Will County Sheriff's police spokesperson, said about 8 p.m. June 12 at 191st Street and Harlem Avenue police stopped a car driven by David Garcia, 19, 8280 Callista, for a traffic violation. Will County Sheriff's Police reportedly smelled marijuana in the car. 

Police found the pot and a bong stuffed in a gym bag, the Sun-Times reported.

According to the Will County Sheriff's Office, Garcia was charged with manufacture or delivery of marijuana, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. In addition, he was charged with transporting liquor.

Bond was set at $30,000. No court date has been assigned.
