Update: Rando Gun-Toting Housebreaker Charged With Robbery, Home Invasion: Cops

The Mokena man was bound for the county jail Friday afternoon.

FRANKFORT, IL — A young man from Mokena was identified as the gunman who broke into a Frankfort house and menaced two children.

Micah Romanek, 21, “randomly targeted” the residence on Prestwick Drive, police said.

Two children were home alone when Romanek hit the house Friday morning, a police source said. Their parents had gone to work, he said.

Romanek was armed with a handgun when he forced his way into the home, police said.

Police officers from Frankfort, New Lenox, Mokena, Olympia Fields and Matteson set up a perimeter in the area of Prestwick subdivision after Romanek allegedly fled from the house, ran down Old Plank Trail and ducked into a wooded area just east of Harlem Avenue. Romanek was captured about an hour after he broke into the residence, police said.

Romanek was charged with home invasion, armed robbery, armed violence and burglary. He was to be transported to the Will County jail Friday evening.
