Village Amends Rules For Street Parking During Snowfall

Residents must now refrain from street parking after a snowfall until after Village workers clear the area, regardless of what time that is.

FRANKFORT, IL — Frankfort residents need to be aware of a change in the Village's policy for street parking after a snowfall. The Village Board of Trustees voted 4-0 at its Monday meeting to amend the old policy, which was a ban on street parking between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m. after 2 inches of snow had accumulated. Village Board of Trustees members Margaret Farina, Eugene Savaria and Jessica Petrow were absent from Monday's meeting.

The new policy states that street parking is banned until Village workers have the area cleared of snow and ice, regardless of the time of day.

The decision to remove the time constraints from the parking after snowfall policy was brought to the board from the Committee of the Whole's Dec. 20 meeting, according to Village documents. The committee had determined that the previous time constraints "does not allow enough time for Public Works crews to clear the streets."

“The Village seeks voluntary compliance and encourages all residents to remove parked vehicles from the roadway when 2 or more inches of snow has fallen to allow Public Works crews to quickly and safely remove snow and ice from the streets,” Frankfort Mayor Mayor Ogle stated via a news release from the Village.

Those who do not remove their vehicles from on-street parking could receive a fine of $25, according to Frankfort Police Department.
