Where Are the Cooling Centers in Frankfort?

The heat index is predicted to reach 100 degrees today.

With the heat index predicted to hit 100 degrees today, a there are two designated cooling centers available in Frankfort.   

The Frankfort Township Municipal Complex, 1100 W. Lincoln Highway, Frankfort, is open from 8 a.m-4 p.m.  

Village of Frankfort Administration Building, 432 Nebraska St., is open from 8 a.m-5 p.m.  
 
Anastasia Tuskey, of the Will County Executive's Office, reminds residents that it doesn’t take long for someone to become overheated and the health effects can be very dangerous.

"The effects of extreme heat conditions on the human body are cumulative and can lead to a variety of health complications, including heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Even a few hours spent in air conditioning can help your body cope with dangerously high heat index values."

She added that symptoms of heat-related illness include headaches, skin that is hot to the touch, increased body temperature, loss of consciousness, seizures and irregular heartbeats.
