City of Galesburg to Expand Walking Path Around Lake Storey (977wmoi.com) — Galesburg is moving ahead with a full walking and biking loop around Lake Storey, with construction on the first phase expected in 2026 and completion targeted for 2027. Funded by state enhancement grants, the expanded path will connect park amenities, nearby housing, and Carl Sandburg College, improving everyday access to outdoor recreation for residents.
   

2. REPLAY: GHS Silver Streaks girls basketball vs Peoria Notre Dame (wgil.com) — Galesburg’s Silver Streaks girls basketball team powered past Peoria Notre Dame 51–37, improving their record to an impressive 10–1 behind balanced scoring and aggressive defense. Sophomore Zaniyah Carter led with 12 points, while Khloe May earned Crunch Time Player of the Game honors. The team now heads into a key Western Big 6 matchup at Geneseo Thursday night.
   

3. Galesburg loses second alderman in four months as Evan Miller steps down over move (wgil.com) — Galesburg’s Ward 3 alderman Evan Miller is resigning after deciding to move outside his ward, marking the second such vacancy in four months. The mayor now has 60 days to nominate a replacement, who must be approved by the city council or temporarily appointed until the next election.
   

4. Winter woes plague some Amtrak trains in Midwest (trains.com) — Recent extreme cold and freight issues caused multi-hour delays on several Amtrak routes, including a disabled BNSF freight west of Galesburg that held up the Southwest Chief. That delay cascaded into schedule changes as far as Kansas City and Chicago. Riders using long-distance trains through the region may still feel ripple effects from these disruptions.
