1. 'A long time coming.' Galesburg to expand multi-use path around Lake Storey (tspr.org) — Galesburg is moving ahead with a long-awaited expansion of the multi-use path around Lake Storey, aiming to complete a full paved loop by 2027. Funded by nearly $2.7 million in state enhancement grants, the project will link all sides of the city-owned lake, connect to Carl Sandburg College, and create a continuous route for walkers, runners, and cyclists.
   

2. Miller steps down from Galesburg city council (tspr.org) — Galesburg’s Ward 3 council seat is opening again as Evan Miller resigns after buying a home outside city limits, triggering another mayoral appointment. Mayor Peter Schwartzman will soon nominate a replacement, continuing a recent pattern of filling vacated council seats by appointment.
   

3. Debra Ann Sweezer (wgil.com) — Galesburg residents are mourning the passing of 70-year-old Debra Ann (Roberts) Sweezer, who died peacefully on December 17 with her daughter by her side. A longtime member of Community of Christ Church, she was known for her love of crafts, animals, and helping family. Cremation is through Watson-Thomas Funeral Home in Galesburg, with private services planned later.
   

4. Harris named CANCO Employee of the Year (mississippivalleypublishing.com) — Galesburg readers may recognize Carl A. Nelson & Company from its ongoing Western Smokehouse Partners work in town, where project manager Ryan Harris has played a key role. Harris was just honored as CANCO’s 2025 Office/Salaried Employee of the Year, recognized for his workload, client relationships, and three decades with the firm.
   

5. The Weekly Post public record for 12-18-25 (illinoisweeklies.com) — Regional law enforcement activity around Knox and Peoria counties includes a Yates City drug and explosives investigation that ended with a suspect taken to the Knox County Jail in Galesburg, plus numerous crashes, thefts, and domestic cases. Deputies also logged a range of calls tied to Yates City, Williamsfield, Dahinda, and other nearby communities between November 16 and 29.
