ADA Improvements Resuming On State Street In Geneva

A new traffic pattern will be required to allow the newly poured concrete at the State Street and Route 31 intersection to cure.

GENEVA, IL — Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant improvements will resume Friday at the intersection of Route 31 and State Street in Geneva, officials said.

Work will require the contractor for the Illinois Department of Transportation-helmed project to close the northbound lane on Route 31 on the north side of the intersection.

One temporary lane will remain open but will be shifted left to use what is normally the southbound left turn lane. As a result, southbound drivers will have use of only one lane as they approach the State Street intersection and will no longer have a dedicated left turn lane to travel east on State Street.

Crews will pour concrete, meaning the temporary traffic pattern will have to remain in place over the weekend as the new surface cures, officials said.

Asphalt work is scheduled to take place May 20-22 at all four corners of the Route 31 and State Street intersection.

Officials said drivers should expect significant delays and consider alternate routes.

Once the concrete and asphalt work is complete, another contractor will remove pavement markings and apply new ones. Geneva officials said a schedule for this work has not been determined.
