Car In Garage Causes Fire At House Near Downtown Geneva: FD

One resident suffered a minor heat-related injury as a result of the fire, city officials said.

GENEVA, IL — A car caught fire Dec. 27 in the garage of a house near downtown Geneva, resulting in minor injuries to one resident, officials said Monday.

The Geneva Fire Department was dispatched at 11:59 p.m. to the two-story residence in the 300 block of Cheever Avenue to find smoke showing from the three-car garage, according to a news release.

The fire department determined the origin stemmed from a car in the garage, but the cause remains under investigation, officials said. Ultimately, crews brought the fire under control in less than 30 minutes.

The fire damaged the garage, while the home's interior sustained smoke damage.

One resident was assessed by paramedics for minor injuries due to the heat but declined further medical attention, officials said.

Firefighters from the St. Charles, Batavia, Elburn, West Chicago, Fermilab and North Aurora fire departments helped at the scene. The Winfield Fire Protection District and the South Elgin & Countryside Fire Protection District provided station coverage.
