Businesses Seek Slice Of Kane County’s Coronavirus Relief Funds

County officials are working out how to distribute $93 million in federal coronavirus funding, and local businesses hope they're included.

KANE COUNTY, IL — Businesses are hoping for a helping hand from Kane County’s coronavirus relief package from the federal government, but the money could run out before that, the Daily Herald reports.

Kane County received about $93 million in federal funding from the more than $2 trillion Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, and Kane County Board members have already approved sending about $28 million to municipalities and unincorporated areas. The board also authorized distributing $8 million to the county’s health department to hire an outside vendor to perform coronavirus contact tracing.

After that money is distributed, the county’s coronavirus fund will have about $57 million left.

However, the board’s coronavirus-funding committee is now working through 81 requests from Kane County departments, which total about $63 million, the Daily Herald reports. The committee is reluctant to recommend approving large requests from county departments and has urged the board to develop a program to support businesses, the report states.
