GENEVA, IL — A road resurfacing project kicked off Wednesday on East Side Drive in Geneva.

Now that nearby sidewalk and curb work is complete, crews are milling the pavement from State to Division streets for two days before commencing paving operations later this week.

Construction is expected to carry over into Oct. 14.

East Side Drive will remain open, but city officials recommend drivers avoid the area over the next few days as the amount of equipment needed for the project will cause congestion and traffic delays.

Geneva police officers are providing a crossing guard Wednesday for students on East Side and Geneva drives. The city is working to complete the majority of the project when school is not in session Oct. 10-14 to limit the inconvenience on students and parents, according to a news release.

Officials said the project timeline is weather-permitting and subject to change.
