Date Chosen For Geneva Curbside Leaf Program To Resume

Geneva reversed its decision to postpone leaf collection until the spring due to thawing snow.

GENEVA, IL — Geneva's curbside leaf pickup program will resume Dec. 29 for the residents who did not receive their third pickup, the city announced.

The city's contractor completed two-thirds of the final pickup route on Nov. 29 when a snowstorm brought 9 inches of accumulation. City officials originally said the collection would occur next spring, citing additional snowfall and cold temperatures, but the recent thaw has melted the snow that buried leaves.

The final sweep will not be broken into zones, officials said, so residents should have their leaves raked to the parkway by 7 a.m. Dec. 29. Pickup is anticipated to be finished by Jan. 2, weather permitting.
