Fox Valley Marathon To Temporarily Close Downtown Geneva Streets

GENEVA, IL — Runners will take to Geneva streets Sept. 22 to race in the annual Fox Valley Marathon. That means multiple roads throughout town will be shut down to accommodate.

The marathon begins in St. Charles and heads south into Geneva. The following downtown and main arterial roads will be closed from 7-9 a.m.

  • Route 31: Roosevelt Street in St. Charles to Fabyan Parkway
  • Stevens Street: Route 31 to Fifth Street
  • Ford Street: Route 31 to Fifth Street
  • North Fifth Street: Stevens to Peyton streets
  • Peyton Street: Fifth Street to Route 31
  • State Street: Route 25 to Seventh Street
  • James Street: Route 31 to Fifth Street
  • South Fifth Street: James to Campbell streets
  • Campbell Street: Fifth to Third streets
  • South Third Street: Campbell to Fulton streets
  • Fulton Street: Third Street to Route 31

Route 38

All eastbound and westbound traffic will be able to cross Route 31. However, police will stop traffic intermittently from 7 to 9 a.m. to allow runners to pass southbound. Drivers should plan alternate routes to avoid potential delays.

Route 31

The state highway will be closed from Roosevelt Street in St. Charles to Fabyan Parkway in Geneva. Local traffic will have limited access to Route 31 between Stevens and Peyton streets and from James and Fulton streets.

For drivers wanting to take an alternate route to avoid the craziness, city officials recommend taking Route 25, Fabyan Parkway and Randall Road.

Numerous marathon officials and police will provide traffic control, and officials urge drivers to use caution when driving through the area. Officers will be available to assist drivers to and from their houses if they live within the designated race course.
