Man Found Frozen to Death Was Allowed To Leave Hospital During Alcohol Detox: Lawsuit

The suit names a doctor and Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital as defendants.

A Geneva man found frozen to death in a vacant lot two years ago had skipped out of Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital in the midst of alcohol detoxification, according to a lawsuit filed in Will County court.

Jeffrey Talley, 50, had been admitted to Adventist Bolingbrook for alcohol detoxification “on numerous occasions” prior to the fateful day in November 2013 he signed himself out against the advice of a doctor, the lawsuit said.

Talley left the hospital wearing nothing but pajamas and did not even have shoes, according to the lawsuit, which was brought by Jennifer Talley, the administrator of Jeffrey Talley’s estate.

The lawsuit said the hospital and Dr. Ramadevi Davarapalli are responsible for Jeffrey Talley’s death due to their failure to ensure he was of sound mind, allowing him to leave without adequate clothing, shoes or a ride home, and neglecting to call his emergency contact, among other things.

A couple months after Jeffrey Talley left Adventist Bolingbrook, a land surveyor found his body in a vacant lot off Windham Parkway, about a mile and a half from the hospital.
