Trap Tests Positive For West Nile Virus In Geneva, Spraying Planned

A mosquito surveillance trap in Geneva recently tested positive for the West Nile Virus, officials said Tuesday.

GENEVA, IL — Mosquito Spraying is scheduled to take place Wednesday across Geneva after a mosquito surveillance trap recently tested positive, city officials said Tuesday.

Clarke, the city's contractor, will travel around the city from dusk Wednesday to dawn Thursday in an effort to reduce the adult insect population.

The contractor will use a synthetic treatment that is safe for humans and pets. People with asthma and other respiratory conditions are advised to stay indoors with their windows closed during the misting application and one hour after.

Geneva is joining its neighboring communities to conduct the spraying.
