What will be your single most important priority if you get elected?

The most important priority is communication. If I were elected, it becomes my job to keep in touch with individuals that are around our students every day: parents, teachers, even the students themselves. If we are board members do not keep that line of communication open then what is the point of having us around? Let us take advantage of what others know to make effective decisions on the board.

Why Are You Seeking Office?

I am seeking office because of my dedication to the school district that I came from and my dedication to insure that the school district continues to serve our students in beneficiary ways daily.

What sets you apart from the other candidates?

The primary thing that sets me apart from the other candidate is age, clearly. But let that not be a deterrent. Though I am young, I am in the midst of learning today's trends in education and I have a great understanding of the new Common Core standards and other educational practices. I have a great deal of respect for those on the board currently, but is it not time for someone who lives and breaths education daily to serve on the board?

Issue 1: What do you think the greatest challenges the school district faces in regard to preparing students for life in a 21st Century world?

By far the greatest challenge that lies before us is the transition to the Common Core standards and adapting in a way that benefits our students the most. When it comes to curriculum and student resources it becomes our job to aid in student college-readiness. This is what needs to be focused on in an ever-changing 21st century. Not to mention, in this changing world students need to be presented with material that meets the demands of the outside world. I have always thoroughly believe that it is our job as educators not to simply fill an empty mind, but rather make it an open one. Open, analytical, and problem-solving minds prove essential now more than ever.

Issue 2: What if anything would you change at the district to make it more efficient or cost effective?

In regards to what we spend and where it goes, it comes down to one question: how does this benefit our students? We must constantly be asking ourselves what our students are receiving from those things we put our money toward. 

Issue 3: What, if any, changes would you make at the district in regard to the role of technology in students' education. 

I would not necessarily make any changes, per say, in technology in the school district as I feel the district is doing what it can to make sure our classroom do in fact have updated technology. Having said that, it is important to remember that there continues to be advancements in educational technologies and we must keep up with it as much as possible. Additionally, we must use technologies that help students meet those Common Core standards. Students have different learning styles; let us use technology to help with the diversity of learning styles in the classroom.
