Police Rescue 3 From Icy Water After Car Plunges Into Pond In Glendale Heights
The crash took place around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, when the temperature was around 1 degree F, according to police.

GLENDALE HEIGHTS, IL — Glendale Heights police officers saved three people whose car crashed into an icy pond early Sunday. The temperature was about 1 degree F at the time of the incident, according to a news release from the Glendale Heights Police Department (GEPD).
Officers got to the pond near Roberta and Burdette Avenues around 1:35 a.m. after they received a report that a car had gone into the pond. The three people were found about 20 or 30 feet from the shore, according to the news release.
Police say the car was submerged in roughly 12 feet of water.

The three individuals were pulled from the water by Officer Marco Lomibao and Officer Dennis Stachura, who kept them above the water's surface and were given support by other police officers and firefighters as they got the victims to the shoreline.
According to police, the three people involved in the crash sustained minor injuries. No police or firefighter injuries were reported.

"Our officers are always ready and prepared for any situation. What could have been a tragic accident turned into heroic actions by Officers Stachura and Lomibao, and other responding officers on scene," Police Chief George Pappas said in a statement.
He added, "I want to commend them for their selfless acts as they put their own lives at risk to rescue these three individuals. Our officer are dedicated to protecting and serving the residents of the Village of Glendale Heights every day."
