GLEN ELLYN, IL — A special meeting is planned for Wednesday to give village commissioners and park district board members a vote on the draft design for Community Event Park.

The meeting comes after three potential designs for the park were shared with the public in August. Residents were encouraged to give feedback via a survey. A town hall was held Sept. 28.

The proposed design that is up for a vote Wednesday includes a central event lawn with a stage that can be used for concerts and other presentations. The central area will be surrounded by seating nooks, a children's play area, a reading lawn and a picnic grove.

Plans for the park include using it for musical performances and festivals in warmer weather. In winter, Community Event Park's central lawn could be converted to a skating rink.

The vision for Community Event Park began to develop shortly after the Village of Glen Ellyn bought the former U.S. Bank property at 453 Forest Ave. for $1.65 million in May. Shortly after, the village partnered with the Glen Ellyn Park District to begin workshopping design concepts.
