LOMBARD, IL — Police say a Chicago woman faces aggravated DUI charges after she crashed into a SUV on Route 53 Tuesday, injuring a family of four, including two children, 10 and 7. Jaquelin Onofre Reyes, 27, is accused of having a blood alcohol content (BAC) of .238 at the time of the crash.

Police were called to Route 53 near Illinois Prairie Path around 12 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a crash between two SUVs. Prosecutors say Onofre Reyes was driving a Hummer SUV south on Route 53 when she went into the northbound lane to try to pass another car.

According to police, Onofre Reyes tried to get back into the southbound lane, but hit another car, which made her veer back into the northbound lane. Onofre Reyes then crashed into an Infiniti SUV head-on.

After the crash, all family the members who were in the Infiniti were taken to a hospital with injuries. The 10-year-old child was transfered to another hospital to be treated for "extensive severe injuries," a news release said.

“It is alleged that at the time of this crash, Onofre Reyes’ BAC was .238, or nearly three times the legal limit,” DuPage County State'a Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement.

Berlin added, “What I find particularly infuriating in this case is that alcohol-related crashes, such as is alleged in this case, are 100% avoidable. This holiday weekend, I urge everyone, please do not get behind the wheel of a car if you have been drinking. Call a ride-sharing service or a sober friend for a ride or stay where you are. I wish all the victims, particularly the ten-year-old boy, a full and speedy recovery."

Onofre Reyes was released from custody and is set to appear in court Jan. 20.
