District 41 Educators Named Among 'Those Who Excel' By ISBE

Two District 41 teachers were recently honored by the Illinois State Board of Education for their positive impact on the community.

GLEN ELLYN, IL — Two teachers from Glen Ellyn School District 41 were recently recognized as part of the Illinois State Board of Education's (ISBE) "Those Who Excel" program. Dina Sbarra, who teaches restorative practices, and Suzi Smith, who teaches fifth grade at Ben Franklin Elementary School, both received special honors.

Sbarra received the Award of Meritorious Service and Smith received the Award of Special Recognition, both of which are designated for teachers who have made a positive impact in service of their community.

In a statement, Sbarra said she was "extremely grateful and humbled" by the honor.

She added, "From the very beginning throughout my last 30 years, it was extremely apparent to me what a great community that encompasses District 41. I have had the utmost privilege of working, in partnership, with exceptional students, parents, staff, administration and our school board."

Smith commented, "I want to express my sincere thanks to the ISBE, as well as those who have supported and believed in me throughout my journey as a teacher. This award serves as a reminder of the importance of hard work, dedication, and support of others. I am truly blessed to be part of the Glen Ellyn community!”
