Downtown Park Proposal To Be Reviewed By Glen Ellyn Plan Commission
The downtown event park would occupy just 1.4 acres at the intersection of Forest Avenue and Duane Street in the former U.S. Bank site.

GLEN ELLYN, IL — A proposal to build a 1.41-acre park with an entertainment pavilion in downtown Glen Ellyn will be reviewed by the village's plan commission Thursday.
The proposed park would be located near the intersection of Forest Avenue and Duane Street in the former U.S. Bank site. The Glen Ellyn Park District is seeking a zoning map amendment, a special use permit and five zoning variations for the development.
Currently, the site at 453 Forest Ave. is zoned as a C5B Central Service Subdistrict and would need to be rezoned to a CR Conservation Recreation District, per village documents. The special use permit would allow the construction of the entertainment pavilion, a concession stand and bathrooms.

The village and park district decided in 2022 on an intergovernmental agreement would allow the park district to lease the site from the village. In 2023, the park district shared a survey to gather public input about the proposal and shared three potential designs for the downtown event park.
A purchase agreement for the park site was inked in the spring of 2024.

The park's performance pavilion would serve as a multipurpose entertainment site for concerts, classes, movies and other events. The proposal also includes a 582 square foot building that would include a concession area, a storage facility and restrooms.
If recommended by the plan commission, the proposal will head to the village council for review. Thursday's plan commission meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the Glen Ellyn Civic Center.
