Driver Dies After Fleeing Traffic Stop In Glen Ellyn: Police

The driver, a Lombard man, died after hitting a utility pole and a tree Friday night, according to police.

GLEN ELLYN, IL — A Lombard man was killed in a single-car crash after he failed to yield to a traffic stop and hit a utility pole and tree in Glen Ellyn Friday night, police say.

Police say they tried to pull over the driver, Mario M. Rouse, after he committed a traffic violation near the intersection of Geneva Road and Main Street around 10 p.m.. Rouse did not pull over and kept driving south on Main Street before veering off the road and hitting a pole and a tree near the intersection of Main and Hawthorne, a news release said.

Rouse was rushed to a local hospital and was pronounced dead around 10:30 p.m.

The fatal crash is still under investigation.
