Former DuPage Hospital Nurse Texted Himself Patient's Sexual Pics, Videos: Police
Police say the South Elgin man sent more than sixty images and six videos of the victim to his personal cellular phone.

WHEATON, IL - DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert B. Berlin and Winfield Chief of Police David Schar announced Friday that bond has been set for a former Central DuPage Hospital employee accused of taking a patient’s cellular phone and illegally sending sensitive, personal photographs from her cellular phone to his cellular phone.
Mark Luis, 33, of the 700 block of Waterside Drive in South Elgin, appeared in bond court Friday afternoon where Judge Dieden set ba at $150,000. Luis voluntarily turned himself in to the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office earlier that day.
It is alleged that on Nov. 12, 2016, while at Central DuPage Hospital, the victim entered her password and used her cellular phone in front of Luis, who was a nurse at the hospital. While at the hospital, the victim was not allowed to have her phone with her for a brief time and consequently the phone was left at a nurses’ station.

It is alleged that Luis removed the phone from the nurses’ station, entered the victim’s password and sent more than sixty images and six videos of the victim to his personal cellular phone. The alleged behavior was uncovered when the victim synced the phone to her ICloud account when she got home and discovered that numerous photographs and videos were allegedly sent from her phone to a phone number that she did not know and that all the images and videos were sent when the phone was not in her possession.
An investigation led by the Winfield Police Department with assistance from the State’s Attorney’s Office led to Luis. On April 19, 2017, Judge Richard Russo issued a $200,000 arrest warrant for Luis.

“The sickening behavior alleged against Mr. Luis in this case is just astounding,” Berlin said. “Going to the hospital can be a very stressful event and while there, patients should not have to worry about such a tremendous invasion of privacy, as is alleged in this case. The allegations in this case should serve as a reminder to people that when using your cell phone in public, be aware of your surroundings and take precautions to ensure no one can steal your password. I would like to thank authorities at Central DuPage Hospital for their cooperation and assistance throughout this investigation. I would like to thank the Winfield Police Department for their work in identifying Mr. Luis as a suspect. I would also like to thank Assistant State’s Attorney Bridget Carlson for her work on this case.”
Winfield Police Chief David Schar expressed his gratitude to the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office whose assistance was invaluable during this investigation. Schar also wished to thank the Security staff at Central DuPage Hospital who worked closely with Detective Gaske to identify Luis after the victim provided her statement.
“This case is another example of how the high level of cooperation between law enforcement and area business in DuPage County helps ensure illegal behavior is identified and those responsible prosecuted," Schar said.
In all, Luis is charged with one count of Non-Consensual Dissemination of Private Sexual Images, a Class 4 Felony and one count of Computer Tampering, also a Class 4 Felony. His next court appearance is scheduled for May 8, 2017.
