Former Winnebago Elementary Treasurer Charged With Stealing $19K from PTO
Tiffany Moorman turned herself in to authorities Feb. 10.

Bloomingdale, IL - A Bloomingdale woman who used to be treasurer of the Winnebago Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization has been charged with stealing about $19,000.
A $100,000 arrest warrant was issued Feb. 9 for Tiffany Moorman, 40 of the 300 block of Starling Court in Bloomingdale, according to the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Moorman turned herself in to authorities Feb. 10, and she posted $10,000 bond, 10 percent of her bail, to be released.

She is charged with theft over $10,000, a Class 2 felony. If convicted, she could face up to seven years in prison. Her next court date is set for March 10.
PTO members found in December 2015 that the money in their account was less than what they thought it should be, the state’s attorney’s office reports. Officials found unauthorized withdrawals from the account made between December 2014 and November 2015, while Moorman was treasurer.

The Bloomingdale Police Department investigated the theft and contacted the state’s attorney’s office. Prosecutors believe Moorman took about $19,000 from the PTO and spent it on personal bills, including rent.
“This money, nearly $19,000, was intended to be used for the benefit of the children of Winnebago Elementary School, not for Mrs. Moorman’s personal use, as is alleged in this case,” said DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin in a statement. “If the allegations in this case are proven true, Mrs. Moorman treated the PTO as her own personal fund raiser and in doing so deprived the students at Winnebago Elementary School of much-needed funding.
