Glen Ellyn Marathoner Was at Boston Finish Line at Explosion

Rebecca T. Farrell remembers how the explosion "sounded like a cannon" from which she was only a few hundred yards away.

A 37-year-old Glen Ellyn woman crossed the finish line of the Boston Marathon just seconds before the first of two explosions rocked the area on Monday, the Chicago Tribune reports.

“It sounded like a cannon, and there was all this gray smoke, then another one a couple second later. I didn’t really feel anything, it was just loud,” Rebecca Trantowski Farrell told the paper.

“I finished at about four hours, so I thought maybe it was a cannon or something they set off at four hours. Then all the race personnel came out and were just yelling ‘Get moving! Get out!’”

According to the paper, Farrell became separated from her husband John in the chaos, but they quickly found each other afterwards as her cell phone already filled with concerned messages. Another Glen Ellyn woman, Sandi Borgman, 39, also was just a few blocks past the finish line, the paper said.
