Ice Skating Opens On Lake Foxcroft, Part Of Lake Ellyn

As of Friday, ice skating was available at Lake Foxcroft. Skaters were advised to use Lake Ellyn at their own risk.

GLEN ELLYN, IL — The bright side of frigid temperatures is the opportunity to ice skate once local lakes freeze over. On Friday, skating was still available on Lake Foxcroft and part of Lake Ellyn, according to the Glen Ellyn Park District.

When weather conditions permit, Lake Foxcroft welcomes ice skaters from 6 a.m. to sunset for unsupervised skating. The park, located at 2S540 Lambert Rd., features a three-acre lake, a walking path and a playground.

As of Friday, Lake Ellyn permitted visitors to skate at their own risk. Lighting is available from 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

No ice skate rentals are available at Lake Ellyn Park, so visitors must bring their own skates. They can also visit or call Paul’s Shoe Service, 486 N Main St., at 630-790-1030, to inquire about purchasing skates.

Newton Park, 707 Fairview Ave., was closed for ice skating and hockey as of Friday morning. Park district staff was set to clear snow accumulation and reassess the lake's safety for skaters.
