Literary Tea Raises Funds for Glen Ellyn Children's Resource Center

Time is running out to purchase tickets for an event that will offer tea and a literary performance to benefit children's literacy. 

The Glen Ellyn Children’s Resource Center is hosting its Third Annual Literary Event, which will feature a performance from “academic entertainer” Barbara Rinella.

The program is being held Nov. 7 at the St. Petronille Parish Center. During the event, tea, coffee and light refreshments will be served.

Rinella will be presenting a program based on Pulitzer Prize winner Robert Massie’s biography, “Catherine the Great: Portrait of a Woman.”

The goal of the event is to raise $5,000 and have more than 100 attendees - the number of people who attended last year, said Mary Beth Sackett, a board volunteer for the nonprofit.

Funds raised through the event will help support the Glen Ellyn Children's Resource Center's efforts, including providing funds for purchasing supplies and paying salaries. According to the nonprofit, its mission is to help local children from low-income families acquire the necessary skills in academics and social interaction to move successfully through grade school into adulthood.

The Third Annual Literary Event will be held Nov. 7 from 9:15 to 11:30 a.m. at the St. Petrnollie Parish Center, 420 Glenwood Ave. Tickets for the event are $50 and may be purchased online or at the door, though pre-purchase is preferred.
