Open for Business: Vintage Images

Long-time business owner Al Lewek is taking on a new business enterprise.

The professional photographer, who owns , is announcing his new venture, Vintage Images.

In 1978, Lewek opened his current business, which offers a variety of services to clients, including portraits and framing. With his new venture he will be specializing in copy, restoration and presentation of old family photos, slides, negatives and documents, Lewek said in a news release.

With more than 34 years experience in the field, restoring photos was always part of his business, but Lewek said he wanted to place more emphasis on restoring old pictures because so many people have them.

"My personal interest in history and older photography techniques and cameras grew over the years to the point where I thought someday I might like to specialize in one area of photography," Lewek said in an e-mail.

To restore the items traditional film and digital processes are used, Lewek said. The result is museum quality photographic copies that should last for years to come.

Another goal of the business will be to offer clients a variety of ways to share, display and preserve family history through the use of the services, including black and white photos converted to color, custom printing of photos, DVD slide presentations and digital collages among other offerings.

His hope is that he will be able to fill the needs of a niche market, Lewek said. He will begin offering the services locally with the hopes of expanding beyond DuPage County.
