The nonprofit has scheduled a public forum to salvage the McKee House from demolition.

GLEN ELLYN, IL - A nonprofit group is making an effort to engage the public on preserving the historically significant McKee House in Churchill Woods.
The McKee Preservation Group will host a community gathering Aug. 18 at 7 p.m. at the Lake Ellyn Boathouse at 645 Lenox Road, Glen Ellyn, My Suburban Life reports.
DuPage County Forest Preserve staff members are in favor of demolishing the building, constructed in 1936. Costs to repair the structure would cost more than $450,000 for repairs, reports The Daily Herald, and up to $1.5 million to ensure occupancy and safety codes.

The McKee Preservation Group is currently petitioning the demolition of the landmark, stating the house should be preserved for its "historic, architectural, cultural and aesthetic importance."
"We have a window of opportunity to show the (forest preserve) board again that this is not a small group," McKee Preservation Group member Linda Gilbert said in the story. "A lot of people have noticed that beautiful building. They are really surprised that the forest preserve would tear down its own history."
