WATCH: Millennium Falcon Built for Lake Ellyn Regatta

Videos have surfaced of a time-lapse of regatta participants building their remarkable Star Wars cardboard ship, plus some footage of the regatta itself.

It's been a month and a half since Glen Ellyn's annual cardboard-boat regatta at Lake Ellyn, but these awesome videos—the second of which only popped up about a week ago—are still definitely worth a look.

Posted by YouTube user nothingtoseehere01, with the first video credited to Charlie P., the videos show the construction of an impressive cardboard Millennium Falcon (Han Solo's ship from "Star Wars," of course) as well as some highlights from the regatta itself.

We'll let nothingtoseehere01 explain in his/her own words:

"This year we went a little smaller, really limited by the width of a boat that we could drive down the road. Instead, we focused on detail and precision. The Millennium Falcon is a classic, and we hope the details will make up for the not as grandiose size.

"It is approximately 8 ft wide and 12 ft long. The base including landing gear and portions of the top were created for model accuracy when viewing on land. The center section is made of layered cardboard and empty boxes to increase buoyancy while minimizing weight. The boat design is based on a papercraft model, which was scaled up, and plotted on a large format printer. A completed version of the model is shown in the video.

"Significant changes were done to add detail to the original design, as well as corrected for measurement and alignment errors which don't show up on a 6-inch model, but do on an 8-foot boat. These prints were used to cut out sections of the cardboard, as well as laminated onto the boat with adhesive after painting to provide the surface detail. A clear coat was applied on top of the paper to protect the paper from the lake."

Pretty impressive, guys. But can it make the Kessel run in less than 12 parsecs?
