LOMBARD, IL — Police are investigating death threats against a west suburban state lawmaker over a homeschool bill, according to FOX 32.
State Rep. Terra Costa Howard, D-Lombard, told the outlet that authorities are looking into threats her office has received in response to misinformation about House Bill 2827.
The bill, called the Homeschool Act and introduced by Costa Howard, would require that families notify local school districts if they choose to homeschool and that homeschooling adults have a high school diploma or the equivalent, according to Capitol News Illinois. Education officials who suspect a homeschooled child is not getting proper instruction could demand proof of student work and teaching materials under the bill, the outlet reported.

Critics argue the bill is unnecessary, intrusive and could disproportionately burden minority and low-income families, according to Capitol News Illinois.
