Glenview SportSwap Returns, Gives Local Athletes Chance To Save Money

The community project supports sustainability by keeping used sport equipment out of the landfill.

GLENVIEW, IL — Following a successful first year, Glenview SportSwap is set to return later this month. Partners Glenview Park District and Greener Glenview say the community project supports sustainability by keeping used sport equipment out of the landfill.

On Aug. 23 and 24, used sports equipment will be available at affordable prices, with proceeds from the SportSwap benefiting the Glenview Park Foundation. Organizers said donated sports equipment should be "gently used" or like new. Here is a list of accepted items:

  • Shinguards (as a pair only)
  • Elbow and Knee pads (as a pair only)
  • Baseball/softball mitts
  • Lacrosse gloves
  • Football/baseball gloves
  • Soccer Cones - single cones welcome, but vouchers only given for a set of 12 or more
  • Bases - single bases welcome, but vouchers are only given for a set of 4 or more

  • Mouthguards
  • Jockstraps
  • Bathing suits, Goggles, Swim caps, Snorkels, Flippers, Kickboards, Water wings
  • Water toys or Pool noodles
  • Dance leotards, tights
  • Sports goggles/glasses
  • Headbands, sweatbands, hair ties
  • Hockey gloves

CLOTHING/SHOES: $5 ACCEPTED

  • Cleats for baseball/soccer/other - please remove dirt prior to drop off
  • Indoor soccer shoes
  • Running spikes
  • Basketball sneakers/shoes
  • Dance/ballet shoes
  • Snowshoes
  • Hiking boots

  • Flip flops, aqua shoes, or regular sneakers/general athletic shoes
  • Winter gloves

The following clothing items will be accepted but for donation only. No vouchers are to be issued.

  • Park District, GBS, Glenview-based issued uniforms/jerseys ONLY
  • Soccer clothing including jerseys, shorts, & socks (GPD or travel teams, multiple sets preferred)
  • Coach, goalie, and referee gear
  • Unused first aid kits

The event will take place from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at the Park Center West Gym.

Community members are invited to shop and save at the SportSwap from 12 noon to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 25. Vouchers are not needed to shop, and items can be purchased with cash or vouchers.
