No Mosquitoes Test Positive For West Nile In Final 2024 Report: Agency
The North Shore Mosquito Abatement District has ceased trapping and mosquitoes for the year.
GLENVIEW, IL — Following a season where over 300 batches of mosquitoes tested positive for the West Nile virus, the North Shore Mosquito Abatement District says the 39-week collection effort is over. In the final week, which was between Sept. 21 and Sept. 27, zero of the 35 batches collected tested positive.
With the current risk of infection low, the Northfield-based agency said Wednesday trapping and testing of mosquitoes has ceased for 2024.
"Although the risk is low, people should continue to take personal protection measures until the first hard freeze," NSMAD said in its weekly report.
