North Suburban YMCA Celebrates a Year of Growth, Impact, and Community Service at Annual Meeting
2024-2025 Community Support Highlights of the Year
Northbrook, IL – November 2025 – The North Suburban YMCA recently hosted its Annual Meeting, celebrating another successful year of growth, community service, and innovation in programs and partnerships that support individuals and families across the northern suburbs.
The meeting highlighted major achievements from the past year, showcasing the Y’s continued commitment to strengthening community, promoting healthy living, and fostering social responsibility.

- Completion of a major Roof Rehabilitation Project, ensuring the longevity and safety of the Y facility.
- Upgraded member-facing registration system to improve accessibility and user experience.
- The “Play to Thrive” campaign, encouraging healthy lifestyles among children and families.
- The Aquatics Department certified 143 lifeguards and instructors, strengthening safety and training resources for the community.
- The Illinois Alliance of YMCAs honored the North Suburban YMCA and Illinois Bone & Joint Institute with the Alliance Impact Partner of the Year Award for their collaborative partnership.
- Expansion of the Brain Games program now offered four times weekly—two sessions online and two in-person—thanks to sponsorship from Homewatch CareGivers.
- The Punch, Dance, Move class for Parkinson’s expanded its reach to support those with other degenerative diseases through proven, movement-based therapy.
- A 41% increase in adult dance participation, reflecting growing engagement in arts and wellness programs.
- Summer Camp expansion with new programming options and a 10% increase in enrollment.
- 1,723 children served through the Y’s childcare and youth development programs.
- The Mental Health Committee curated interactive displays promoting awareness and community resources.
- The Special Olympics team achieved 18 medals—9 Gold, demonstrating dedication and excellence in adaptive athletics.
- Over 25+ Community Donation Drives including nurses closet drive for Title I schools, “Coat off your Back” with Rotary, Recycling Programs, blood drives with American Red Cross, candy drive, sleeping bags and yoga matts for homeless veterans, Students Helping Student Drive in partnership with Hunger Free Northbrook and ongoing food collection for the Food Pantry.
- Free events open to all the community including Youth Explorers Event, Pet Blanket Event, SeniorPalooza, Trunk or Treat Fest, Holiday Giveback and more
- The NSYMCA Youth & Government delegation had all 6 of their presented bills passed at the March Assembly at the State Capital. They also won the Best Bill of Assembly Award, and got to meet Illinois Supreme Court Justice, David K. Overstreet.
Financial Assistance Highlights from 2024-2025:
- 269 children learned to swim
- The Y subsidized an average of 60% of the camp fees for low-income families
- 2,500 people tuned in to a FREE Y Education Series presentation
- 76 children explored their creativity through visual & performing arts
- 83 children got to be a part of a sports team
- 250 seniors have a place to belong and foster their long-term independence
In addition to program highlights, the Y welcomed Weisner Perez, Executive Director at UBS Financial Services, as a new Board member, elected to a three-year term and also honored Sal Manso, who was recognized as Emeritus after serving on the Y’s Board for more than 20 years. The organization also honored Joni Goldstein for her 50-year career as a Dance Instructor at the North Suburban School of Dance at the NSYMCA.

“As I complete my first year as Board Chair of the North Suburban YMCA, I’m filled with gratitude for the incredible work happening across every department,” said Anne O’Connor, NSYMCA Board President. “This past year truly reflected the Y’s ability to grow, adapt, and serve our community in meaningful ways.”
