NSYMCA Welcomes Artist Tigerlily Cross to Its Community Gallery
Art for sale with a portion of proceeds benefiting the NSYMCA Visual Arts Program

Northbrook, IL – November 2025 – The North Suburban YMCA’s Community Gallery proudly features artist Tigerlily Cross through November 20th. All artwork displayed in the exhibit is available for purchase, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Visual Arts Department at the NSYMCA.
Cross’s gallery showcases a diverse range of mediums including oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastels, and graphite. Her paintings emphasize the art of “seeing,” with a focus on skillful layering and texture. In addition to painting, Cross explores other creative forms such as sculpture, weaving, and ceramics.
“Art is everything to me,” says Tigerlily Cross. “Art is my lifeblood—my heart, soul, and mental stability. I am a self-taught painter and, according to my mom, I began mark-making around the age of four.”

Born in Long Beach, California, Cross grew up moving frequently as an “Army Brat,” discovering that art was a comforting and creative constant in her ever-changing world. After marrying in California, she later relocated to Hawaii, where she worked as a legal secretary in Honolulu before returning to her passion for art. There, she opened a small shop selling her paintings and handmade jewelry to visitors from around the world. Cross also taught herself the unique craft of sand painting, replicating authentic Hawaiian petroglyphs—some of which were sold through the Bishop Museum in Honolulu.
“The NSYMCA’s Community Gallery celebrates the talented and diverse artists living and working in Chicago’s northern suburbs,” says Megan Vazquez, Senior Director of the Visual Arts Program at the NSYMCA. “We are always honored to exhibit new artists each month and offer free community pop-ups that make art accessible to everyone.”
