Officers Evacuate Elderly Residents from Burning Glenview Home

Residents were also duped in phone and email scams.

The following information is from the Glenview Police Department. An arrest is not an indication of guilt.

No Valid Driver’s License

Gloria Salgado, 35, of the 800 block of Piper Ln. in Prospect Heights, was arrested in the 3800 block of Willow Road at 7 a.m. Aug. 22 and charged with No Valid License and Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident after being involved in a motor vehicle accident at that location. Salgado was released on a $1,500 D-Bond with a Sept. 16 court date.

Warrant

Mitchell Dwayne Simmons, 21, of the 7800 block of S. Ellis in Chicago, was arrested at 4 p.m. Aug. 22 in the 2700 block of Patriot Blvd. on a warrant from Will County for Failure to Appear on a suspended driver’s license. He was held in custody pending posting of a $5,000 D-Bond or transport to bond court.

Deceptive Practice

A resident of Winter Park FL. reported Aug. 19 that they own an online magazine company and employ a resident of Glenview who works online from home. Someone hacked their email account and tricked the employee into wiring $15,000 to a “client” in Highland, IL. Since the original incident, the offender regained control of the email account and requesting $9,000 more. No more funds were sent.

Harassment by Electronic Communications

A resident reported Aug. 20 receiving two sexually explicit emails. They do not know the sender and are not sure how they obtained their email address.

Retail Theft

An employee of a business in the 2400 block of Glenview Rd. reported a man entered the store on Aug. 22 at 11:30 a.m. and removed a carton of cigarettes worth $100 without paying for it.

Deceive Practice

A resident reported on Aug. 21 that they received a telephone call from a representative of a company who instructed them to push their Windows key along with the “R” key in order to access their computer. The company then advised they needed $149 in repairs and requested the resident’s personal banking information. The resident authorized the payment and realized afterward the service was a scam.

Battery

Officers responded to a business in the 1500 block of Milwaukee Ave. for a Battery Aug. 23 just after midnight. The victim reported they were involved in a physical confrontation with two acquaintances. Officers spoke with the two individuals. All involved parties were alleged to be drinking and did not want to sign complaints.

Officers Evacuate Elderly Residents from Burning House

Officers responded to the 1600 block of Elmdale Ave. for a house fire at 8:30 p.m. Aug. 23. Officers Maize #120, Gaba #137 and Oshana #162 were first on the scene and were able to enter the burning building and evacuate several elderly residents. The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.

Identity Theft

A resident reported Aug. 25 that someone used their identifiers to open up credit cards. The person defaulted on all of them and the resident cancelled all of the fraudulent cards. They suffered no loss.
