Risk Of West Nile Virus Infection Increasing In Glenview: Agency

Nine of 10 mosquito batches collected in Glenview this week tested positive for the virus, according to officials.

GLENVIEW, IL — Though the risk of infection from the West Nile virus remains low, a local agency says it is increasing. The North Shore Mosquito Abatement District, headquartered in Northfield, said nine of 10 batches collected in Glenview this past week tested positive for the virus.

NSMAD is encouraging residents to take personal protection measures, most importantly, use an EPA registered mosquito repellent. Wearing proper attire and eliminating or draining items that can hold stagnant water around their property will help to further reduce risk. Contact the NSMAD for assistance with large areas of standing water.

The first West Nile virus-positive mosquitoes collected in Glenview occurred on July 16. This year, WNV positive mosquitoes have also been found in traps in Evanston, Kenilworth, Lincolnwood, Morton Grove, Northbrook, Northfield, Skokie, and Wilmette. The most current test results are available at the agency's website.
