ILLINOIS — Just six years after introducing the concept, Starbucks will be eliminating its pickup-only store model in 2026. There are 90 pick-up only stores in the country, including 10 in Illinois. A Starbucks spokesperson said some locations may be converted.

CEO Brian Niccol made the announcement during a third-quarter earnings call earlier this week, reports USA Today.

The pick-up stores were designed for mobile orders and "quick pick up without the wait," Starbucks said when launching them in 2019. Niccol said the concept is no longer compatible with the company's "get back to Starbucks" marketing strategy.
