Village Ready For 'Snow Season' As Winter Nears In Glenview

The public works department navigates 167 miles of roads during the winter months.

GLENVIEW, IL — With winter officially just over a week away, North Shore municipalities are gearing up for the cold and snowy weather ahead. According to the Village of Glenview, the public works department navigates 167 miles of roads, 272 cul-de-sacs, 80 miles of sidewalks and 18 parking lots each year.

"From the first frost to the final thaw, we’re ready for 'snow season' in the Village," the Village said in a Tuesday social media post.

The Village of Glenview maintains the following major roads during the winter:

  • Central Road (Harlem Avenue to Huber Lane)
  • Chestnut Avenue
  • Glenview Road (East Village limit to Milwaukee Avenue)
  • Harlem Avenue (Golf Road to Prairie Street)
  • Lehigh Avenue (Prairie Street to Patriot Boulevard)
  • Patriot Boulevard
  • West Lake Avenue (Greenwood Road to Lehigh Avenue)
  • Shermer Road (Golf Road to East Lake Avenue, West Lake Avenue to Old Willow Road)

The Illinois Department of Transportation maintains these major roads:

  • Central Road (Huber Lane to I-294)
  • Dearlove Road (Central Road to Milwaukee Avenue)
  • Greenwood Road (West Lake Avenue to Gold Road)
  • Milwaukee Avenue
  • Pfingsten Road (East Lake Avenue to Willow Road)
  • Shermer Road (Old Willow Road to Willow Road)
  • Waukegan Road (Golf Road to Willow Road)
  • West Lake Avenue (Pfingsten Road to Greenwood Road)
