West Nile Virus Infection Risk 'Moderate And Increasing': Agency

Fifty-three of 73 batches tested for the week of Aug. 5-11 came back WNV positive, according to the North Shore Mosquito Abatement District.

GLENVIEW, IL — Last week, all six batches of mosquitoes tested for the West Nile Virus in Glenview came back positive, according to the Northfield-based North Shore Mosquito Abatement District. In all, 11 of the 12 municipalities the agency tests had positive results for the week of Aug. 5 through Aug. 11.

Due to this, NSMAD said the risk of infection is "moderate and increasing," in its latest report, released on Tuesday. In addition to Glenview, there were positive tests in Northbrook (one of two batches tested positive), Evanston (10 of 12), Kenilworth (seven of nine), Lincolnwood (six of eight), Morton Grove (three of four), Niles (two of three), Northfield (four of four), Skokie (four of six), Wilmette (five of seven) and Winnetka (five of seven).

NSMAD recommends residents to take personal protection measures like wearing an EPA registered mosquito repellent, wear proper attire and eliminate or drain items that can hold stagnant water around their property.
