1 Of 3 Suspects In Waukegan 'Targeted' Robbery Turns Self In

Lake County Sheriff's detectives continue working to identity the other two involved in what they believe was a targeted incident.

WAUKEGAN, IL — One of three men accused in a Friday armed robbery in Waukegan turned himself into authorities Wednesday morning after learning there was a warrant out for his arrest. According to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's office, deputies were called to a home in the 36600 block of North Adelphi Avenue in Waukegan at 3:50 p.m. Friday for a reported armed robbery, where they found the victim, a 41-year-old man, who'd been working on a car inside a detached garage. While working, the victim was approached by three men who got inside the garage and confronted him, according to the news release.

All three ordered the victim to give them his cell phone, cash and the jewelry he was wearing, and the victim gave them everything they demanded, according to the news release. One of the three suspects had a metal pipe, the sheriff's office said.

One of the men, later identified as 22-year-old Eric Giles, of the 1400 block of Leith Avenue in Waukegan, shoved the victim to the ground, while one of the other men hit the victim several times with a metal pipe before the three of them left.

The victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said.

Sheriff’s detectives identified Giles as being involved in Friday's incident, and the Lake County State’s Attorney’s office approved an arrest warrant for the charges felony armed robbery and felony aggravated robbery for Giles, according to the news release. On Monday, a Lake County judge set bond on the warrant at $500,000, the sheriff's office added, two days before Giles surrendered himself to authorities.

Giles will appear for an initial court hearing Wednesday, as sheriff's detectives continue working to identity the other two involved in what they believe was a targeted incident, the news release said.
