6 Horses Die After Suburban Driver Crashes Truck Into Animals: Police
The collision happened early Monday in Kenosha County. An Antioch man was driving the truck that collided with the horses, police said.
KENOSHA COUNTY, IL — Six horses died when a suburban driver collided with the animals in Kenosha County early Monday, authorities said.
The driver, a 67-year-old Antioch man, was driving east on County Highway WG at County Highway MB at about 4:15 a.m. Monday when his 2004 Ford F-350 pickup truck hit the horses, according to a news release from the Kenosha County Sheriff's Office.
Five horses died at the scene, police said. A sixth horse was injured and later euthanized by its owner due to injuries sustained in the collision.

The horses belonged to a local resident, and investigators determined the horses escaped from a fenced enclosure before entering the roadway where the collision occurred, according to the news release.
The driver was not injured, and the truck, which sustained significant damage in the collision, was towed from the scene.

Authorities do not believe the driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the collision, and speed is also not believed to be a factor in the crash. Police said the collision occurred along a dark stretch of roadway.
Authorities are looking into whether to file citations related to animals at large, police said.
