2 In Custody After Police Chase In Grayslake

LAKE COUNTY, IL — Two are in custody following a high-speed police chase in Grayslake that ended with a man and woman resisting police, according to authorities.
Maria Lara, 32, and Swayne Carranza, 38, both faces charges in connection with the early Saturday incident in Grayslake, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office.
Carranza, who was driving in a vehicle that did not have its headlights on at about 2 a..m. on Saturday, is accused of not stoping when a sheriff's office deputy tried to pull him over in the area of Washington Street and Lancer Lane in Grayslake, police said. He sped away from police, reaching speeds of 80 mph in a 45 mph zone.

The deputy caught up to the vehicle when it pulled into a driveway in the 1100 block of Cambridge Drive n Graylsake. He got out of his car and refused to listen to deputy's instructions.
Police told him he was under arrest and when deputies tried to take him into custody, he resisted and pulled away, before deputies used a Taser on him, according to a news release.

Lara, a passenger in his car, got out of the vehicle and began to interfere with the arrest. She kicked one of the deputies, resisting their efforts. Deputies were able to subdue Lara and arrested her.
Lara has been charged with aggravated battery to a peace officer, resisting arrest, obstructing a peace officer and open transportation of alcohol. Carranza has been charged with resisting arrest, obstructing a peace officer, aggravated speeding and multiple traffic violations.
Carranza was processed at the jail and released on pre-trial release. Lara remains held at the jail as she awaits her first court appearance.
