2 Killed, 1 Hospitalized In Wauconda Wrong-Way Crash

The investigation shows a Honda was headed southbound in the northbound lanes of Route 12 when it hit a delivery truck head-on, police said.

WAUCONDA, IL β€” Two men were killed Thursday morning during a wrong way, head-on crash in Wauconda. According to a news release from the Wauconda Police Department, officers were called at 2:16 a.m. to the northbound lanes of Route 12 near Route 59 for an accident involving a Honda Odyssey and a Freightliner delivery truck. Although the investigation into the crash is ongoing, according to police, early investigation shows the Honda was headed southbound in the northbound lanes of Route 12 when it hit the delivery truck head-on.

The 25-year-old man who was driving the Honda and the passenger, a 24-year-old man, were both pronounced dead at the crash site, according to the news release.

The 23-year-old man who was driving the delivery truck was taken to Condell Hospital.

The Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT), Wauconda Fire District, Lake County Sheriff’s office, Lake Zurich Police Department, and Island Lake Police Department assisted Wauconda Police Department, the news release said.
