3 Teens With Guns Charged After Fleeing Stolen Vehicle On Fire: Police

The trio fled the fire, running to nearby woods and then taking a rideshare, which was stopped by police, authorities said.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — Three teens who fled a flaming stolen vehicle face charges after they were found to be armed, according to police.

Marcus Smith, 19, of Zion; Trashaun King, 18, of Round Lake; and Barion Mhoon, 18, of Kenosha, Wisconsin, were arrested and charged with four counts each of aggravated possession of a firearm, police said.

Deputies responded around 11:45 p.m. Friday to the 42400 block of North Route 41 in Wadsworth for a vehicle fire on a tollway ramp, police said, adding a witness reported seeing three people run from the scene into the woods.

A deputy then saw the trio enter a rideshare SUV, conducted a traffic stop and learned the teens had loaded guns, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

The abandoned stolen vehicle was taken from North Chicago and it is unclear how the fire started, the sheriff’s office said, adding state police were investigating the blaze and North Chicago police were investigating the theft.

The trio appeared in court Saturday and are being held pending detention hearings Tuesday, police said.
