Avon Students to Support Scout's Texting and Driving Campaign

Grayslake Boy Scout William Bauman, whose Eagle Scout project is a campaign dedicated to bringing awareness to the dangers of texting and driving, will get help from students at Avon School in District 46 next week.

On Wednesday, Avon students will be making a sign on the big fence along Route 83 with the words "Stay Alive-Don't Text & Drive," using Solo cups.

"There could be close to 1,000 cups used to make the sign. The school is very supportive of William's Eagle project," said his mom, Michele Bauman.

William met with principal Chris Wolk and art teacher Kimberly Butts to organize the initiative with the Avon students.

"I think the sign will make a big stament on texting and driving, even more so because it is being done by kids," said Michele Bauman.

With help from fellow Scouts, William also created signs for Culver's. The Scouts also walked in the Grayslake Memorial Day parade carrying signs to raise awareness, reported Patch.
