Body Found In Wauconda-Area Field, Investigation Underway

According to the sheriff's office, 3 teens came across the body Friday in the 25200 block of West Old Rand Road while collecting firewood.

LAKE COUNTY, IL β€” Lake County Sheriff's office deputies were called to a field in unincorporated Wauconda Friday after a body was found in an open area. According to a news release from the sheriff's office, deputies were called at 4 p.m. to the field in the 25200 block of West Old Rand Road, where they learned that three teens came across the body when they were collecting firewood.

Deputies were led to the body, which was in advanced stages of decomposition, according to the sheriff's office, adding that there weren't any obvious signs of foul play. Sheriff's detectives and the Lake County Coroner's office β€” who was also called to the site β€” are investigating.

Lake County Sheriff Spokesman Sgt. Christopher Covelli told Patch sheriff's detectives found documents near the body indicating the person may have previously been at a PADS shelter located in the vicinity of where the boy was found.

Authorities haven't determined the age of the person and if the body is that of a female or male, however, an an autopsy is being scheduled, according to the sheriff's office.

"We will know more following the autopsy," Covelli added.
