Boy, 13, Charged After Loaded Gun Found In Locker At School: Police
The gun was located in the locker at Viking Middle School and a 13-year-old boy now faces an unlawful possession of a firearm charge.
GURNEE, IL — A 13-year-old boy was arrested after authorities in Gurnee found a loaded gun in his locker at a middle school last week.
The Gurnee Police Department was called to Viking Middle School, located at 4460 Old Grand Avenue in Gurnee, after reports surfaced regarding a gun on the property on Friday, according to a news release from the Gurnee Police Department. The school was placed on soft lockdown.
Authorities learned a student overheard another student who had discussed possessing a weapon.

Officers with the Gurnee Police Department, as well as a Lake County Sheriff's Office officer and the K9 unit, responded to the school and found a loaded handgun in a student's locker. The gun was safely recovered by police, according to a news release.
A 13-year-old boy was located and taken into custody. He has been charged with unlawful possession of a weapon in a school and has been released to his parent's custody.

Police have determined there were no credible threats to other students or school staff, and the soft lockdown has been lifted, according to authorities.
