The Zion Police Department said those involved in the recent catalytic converter thefts are believed to be working in pairs.
ZION, IL — In the last several days, the Zion Police Department has taken six reports of catalytic converter thefts, and said other nearby communities are experiencing the same kind of theft, including Gurnee, Waukegan, unincorporated Lake County and Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin.
According to the police department, the thefts appear to be happening between midnight and 9 a.m. Those involved are believed to be working in pairs, with one person staying in the car to look out for police or the owner of the vehicle, while the other crawls under the car and cuts the catalytic converter from it using a sawzall or other cutting tool.
Police said these are expensive thefts and can take place in just minutes.
